Job Purpose

To provide accurate, precise, and up-to-date information pertaining to location, boundaries, topography, legal descriptions, and development of land. For the cadastral surveyor role, you will also carry out land title surveys for lodgement into the national land titles system in New Zealand. For land development role you will prepare and liaise with associated professionals on land development infrastructure designs and make such applications to Council and supervise and certify
completion certificates for land developments.



  • Liaising with clients and other key stakeholders
  • Fostering good relationships with colleagues, clients, and other key stakeholders
  • Business development – develop new clients and promote PPLP in the community
  • Preparing fee estimates
  • Invoicing and monitoring Work in Progress and follow-up debtors for payment
  • Liaising with various Councils and developing working relationships with key officers


  • Preparing plans of proposed subdivision, surveying support for planning
  • Liaising with specialist planning and other consultants to ensure satisfactory outcomes for clients
  • Liaising with all agencies as required to ensure satisfactory resource consent outcomes for clients


  • Project management of surveying projects (time, cost, stakeholders, resources etc) and including outsourcing works to contractors as required.
  • Liaising with LINZ on survey and all related matters
  • Reporting on survey projects
  • Utilising Landonline for its full range of capabilities
  • Use of 12D software for surveying calculations and drawing
  • Field surveys as required
  • Supervision and mentoring of junior and graduate surveyors
  • Cadastral Supervision and guidance of Cadastral surveys
  • Supervision and guidance of other survey works
  • Application for RMA certifications
  • Application for additional certifications required to satisfy all conditions of Resource Consent and Land Development process
  • Present in Court as Expert Witness if requested on surveying matters


  • Use of 12D software for land development civil engineering design, calculations, and drawings (earthworks, drainage, roads, services)
  • Supervision of such design and drawings
  • Preparation of NZS3910 engineering contracts for land development
  • Calling for tenders, assessing tenders, negotiating and awarding contracts
  • Management and supervision of civil engineering works related to land development and subdivision (including transport facilities, utility services, earthworks, landscaping etc).
  • As constructed surveys to comply with consent conditions


  • Increasing and maintaining knowledge through Continuing Professional Development – both organised events and self-education
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety matters in all work-related activities plus guiding fellow workers in the same
  • Adhering to the PPLP Handbook principles, processes, procedures, and guidelines in all regards and in all aspects of work activities
  • Assisting in updating and preparing new procedures and guidelines for the improvement of efficiency, consistency, productivity, and safety within the group
  • A relevant land surveying qualification
  • Ideally have passed the Cadastral Survey Licensing Board exam (but not a necessity)
  • Experience in land development projects, site investigations
  • Conversant with 12D, Robotic Total Station software
  • Conversant with NZ codes and standards
  • Experience within a consultancy environment
  • Ideally minimum 5 years industry experience
  • Negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to balance competing viewpoints and interests
  • The ability to work well within a team environment
